In the Centennial Limited Edition brochure issued by Yamaha, the NSX-10000 speaker was illustrated. Like the other components in the series, the NSX-10000 had superb specifications. I had a frequency response of 35 Hz to 20 kHz. It had a peak power handling capability of 250 watts. In Imperial units, it measured 29.4 inches high, 17.7 inches wide, and 16.1 inches deep. At 54 kilograms, each speaker weighed over 100 pounds! Yes, these speakers could definitely handle the power output of of the MX-10000. Each speaker was protected by a fuse to prevent destruction of the drivers at very high volume levels. However, high volume handling capability was not what the NSX-10000 was about. Excellent music reproduction was. The woofer, mid-range and high frequency tweeter were all proprietary to this speaker. Yamaha was committed to speaker performance to match its electronics in this line of components. With the price of 400,000 yen, these speakers met the expectations of the listeners.
For the best possible sound, the NSX-10000 also had its own special speaker stands. The SPS-10000 speaker stand was as carefully crafted as the speakers themselves and were beautifully finished in wood veneer. |
